Staff - Penny - Training and Development Officer

I used to be head of a Cheshire Home in Zimbabwe, but have recently become Training and Development Officer for the whole of Southern Africa.

Leonard Cheshire has many experienced staff all over the world, but, because our own experiences are so different, I believe we can never stop learning from each other. Each individual and each country has something to teach somebody.

Our Training and Development programmes enable us to use each other's experience in our work with disabled people. Staff can improve their work through practices and ideas learned from other staff and - crucially - from disabled people. The disabled people who have taken part in this training can learn more about their own disability - knowledge they can pass on to their local community.

By demonstrating first-hand the valuable role that disabled people can play in a community, they continue to make people more aware of disability and the abilities of disabled people. It's a structured and effective way that enables us all to learn more. And by continuing to listen to each other's experiences we can continue to provide better services and a better way of life for disabled people.
