Volunteers - Kevin - Companion

I first met Matt in a pub - if you go somewhere often enough you get chatting to people and that was how we got to know each other. It struck me immediately that Matt, who lives at the local Cheshire Home, was very popular. But I also noticed that when people had had a few drinks they were promising him things - they would take him here or there or 'we'll have to go and do this'. In the morning they would have forgotten - but Matt wouldn't.

So, knowing he was a big Liverpool fan, I got us some tickets for a game against Arsenal at Highbury and it went on from there. We've been to football matches, record fairs, comedy clubs, theatres - you name it!

On one occasion Matt bought a ticket for his friend Rob who is paralysed from the neck down, but both were unable to get into my car. So I decided to take the driving test for the Home's bus and I'm now on their drivers' list. Most times I just go with Matt in the car, but I've got a lot of great friends at the Home now and every now and again a whole gang of us will go somewhere. I certainly don't see myself as their driver. We're all friends.
