Volunteers - David - Committee Member

The work of Leonard Cheshire is of enormous importance to me. I am a businessman but I feel I have a vital role to play in my voluntary capacity as a member of Leonard Cheshire's International Committee.

Every member of the committee brings a certain expertise and level of experience, and I am happy to give my time to the organisation because I feel it does excellent work.

Leonard Cheshire works to support people to be in control of their lives, to make their own decisions. As a disabled person myself who was able to study in Oxford because Leonard  Cheshire has disabled students' accommodation there, this is a deeply personal issue to me.

As an international committee, our work to help someone achieve that control always has to be carried out in the context of each individual country. I feel the experience I have gained in my job is as valuable to the committee as my experience as a disabled person, and I would encourage everyone to look at the skills they use at home or in their job to see if they could use them to help Leonard Cheshire. I think a lot of people don't realise just how much they have to offer.
