Service Users - Ben - Care at Home Services

At 19 I broke my neck in a rugby accident. I thought it was the end of my life. Well, wouldn't  you? There are so many things I can't do any more. Strangers treat me differently because I use a wheelchair, they talk across me - you have no idea how irritating that is.

I always knew I was the same as anybody else, but it was my local Leonard Cheshire service  that really gave me the confidence and the support to get my life back on track.

They have been wonderful. After my accident, their positive encouragement rubbed off on me and my family. They helped us all to come to terms with a whole new lifestyle focusing on the things I can do. It's thanks to their support that I'm about to qualify as a sports management lecturer. Its something I've always wanted to do, but I'd never have gone back to my studies without the support of Leonard Cheshire.

My care attendants, Sue and Vera, are everything I could ask for - they're professional, reliable and friendly! They treat me as a person. I might need some physical help to do certain things, but it's always my decision as to what I do.

I hadn't heard of Leonard Cheshire before my accident, but with their support I have been able to rebuild my life, and can look to the future with confidence.
